Assistive Technology Training
All assistive technology training at VIPS is conducted in the Microsoft Windows environment such as:
- Windows XP
- Windows Vista
- Windows 7
Trainees will be introduced to assistive technologies that allow blind and low vision users to access their computers. Among the computer-related assistive technologies are:
- screen readers (JAWS and Window-Eyes)
- screen magnifiers (ZoomText and MAGic)
- accessible scanning software (Kurzweil 1000 and OpenBook)
The core curriculum includes training in:
- Microsoft Office suite of programs (Microsoft Word 2010; Microsoft Excel 2010; and, Microsoft Outlook 2010)
- Internet Explorer
Additional instruction in other assistive technologies is available upon request, including, but not limited to:
- accessible DAISY / MP3 players (Victor Reader Stream and BookSense)
- BrailleNote Apex
