Here are some testimonials from our valued clientele.
You were right when I called you [VIPS]. I was lost … [Then] I came to the Support Group and I felt all the support from you guys. [Now] I have someone to talk to. I think I’m able to deal with it [vision loss] as well as I am because of finding you guys and having you guys to comfort and support me.
Since the inception of VIPS many people have been helped. You can see the stories of 17 of them in the book "The Little House that Cares" Some of the more recent experiences are here.
Vision loss is like a fork in the road one path leads to depression you know just a feeling of hopelessness the other path leads to a better acceptance and a knowledge that there is hope for you. And that hope is VIPS It's nice to know VIPS has something like a support group where people can come in and feel safe and say what they need to say, you know that the other people in the room are going through very similar things like you.
When I first started coming it was like somebody like Dan totally blind what happened to him was- YES! - He just didn't have a care in the world. Just hearing him and other people too it was like aha I never stopped coming - I just can't.
I was down, very down and was feeling like my life was sort of over. I wasn't getting around much I was feeling closed in in my home, I was feeling very fearful because I couldn't see- I'd been falling over things tripping over things not being able to find things in my home- Since coming to VIPS I have taken a class called Adjusting to Blindness - I've learned different ways of doing things, which I think is wonderful. It's rebuilt my confidence- It's bringing me back to life being here at VIPS.
I love VIPS. VIPS is sort of my support system. Unfortunately I come from a culture where blind people are not treated well and their not to be seen but to held back into the background somewhere. So VIPS and the support here is extremely, extremely important to me, VIPS is my family.
I'm able to get on the Internet again, I'm able to start writing again (I write children stories). I started mobility classes I have a fear of crossing the street, that's helped me out. I actually am going for my first walk to Dollar Tree store tomorrow. Everything seems to be just working out I thank God for VIPS and everybody who works for it.
VIPS has been incredible the people so caring and so helpful and - the people that serve here work here volunteer here have been an amazing gift to me and their knowledge, their experience and encouragement has been a great help as well.
